What are Singular Nouns and Plural Nouns



Singular Nouns: Singular means only one. Singular nouns can be a name, place, person, thing or an idea.

Example: India is a country.

Here, India = a singular noun
           is = a singular verb
           a = an article
           country = a singular noun

Some more examples:

1. Arabic is a language.
2. Delhi is a city.
3. France is a country.
4. A cat is an animal.


Plural Nouns: Plural means more than one.

Example: Dogs are animals.

Here, Dogs =  a plural noun (it indicates more than one dog. Two, three or more.)
           are = a plural verb
           animals = a plural noun

Some more examples:

1. Chickens are animals.
2. Dictionaries are books.
3. Beans are vegetables.
4. Winter and summer are seasons.*

*Two nouns connected by and takes a plural verb. In above example: Winter is a singular noun. Summer is a singular noun. They are connected by and. Together they are plural nouns.
